Ideal Formats for Transcoding On The Fly?

Per Marc's response in previous discussion, video transcoding happens on the fly.   Is there an ideal upload format/bitrate/encoding/etc that helps streamline that transcoding process for faster transcoding, fewer hiccups etc?

We are currently establishing some best practices for uploading videos using the new Stream.

I've checked internally and we don't have a list like this yet. I've asked the PM who owns the encoding layer to work on writing something. I'll let you know if we are able to publish something like that.
