Although there is currently the option of Publishing audio files (eg Podcasts) in SharePoint (intranet), but this is not a comfortable solution. I would therefore like to suggest that Stream be extended so that audio files (eg MP3) can be published. In Stream you have the possibility to be informed directly on the homepage of the latest podcasts, could follow channels and use the watchlist.

.wav  or .mp3 would be a great way for us to distribute news to our staff to listen to but looks like its not currently supported.

Wondering if Office 365 is working on an app (or has one) for audio-only live streams or on demand--sort of like Stream but not for video, just audio--a radio/podcast model.

We're using Stream to great success but managers are asking me to find an alternative for those in their car.

For some reason they don't want them streaming video and only listening to the audio.

Microsoft

See this thread for a great use case from Education for allowing audio only uploads to Stream:

I work with lots of State/Local Government customers that record the audio of public meetings, but not the video. Today, they would have to go to great lengths to share this content with Stream, and instead use a platform that natively allows them to just upload the M4A files.

Within a company there may be inquiries to produce shorter (or sometimes longer) podcasts as an alternative to get certain messages accross, where a video production is too complex for the message but text feels too limiting (or audio is used as a complement to the text).

Support audio casting through Microsoft Stream with the use of the right iconography (for audio only media) and publishing tools (different options for embedded players Sharepoint sites supporting a "listen later" functionality within Microsoft Stream), great UI within Microsoft Stream (to make it easy to filter audio/video ). Support audio editing options within Microsoft Stream, dowloadable software and in the Stream app on your smartphone.

Hope to see this be fully explored in Stream and Sharepoint soon.

I found a similar request on uservoice. Does anyone know if the Stream folks are actively using this techcommunity area or uservoice as the official submission channel?

We have video and audio/podcast teaching materials. There's no point in having multiple storage services for different streaming media types when the usage scenarios are nearly identical.

FWIW YouTube doesn't allow for uploads of audio only files. Because it's a Video Portal service. Like Stream.

Youtube is a different animal it’s not focused on business / enterprise

Microsoft needs better features or why wouldn’t we just use YouTube

All the parts are in place.   How often is it that you get customers asking for 'less'.  We are looking for a light weight, low bandwidth options that we can have employees download the files for offline listening while they are driving around.  This would also mean the use of the MS Stream app with support for Car Play or Android Auto so they can podcast in the vehicle, when they have the option.

It would be great if you could upload MP3 files onto stream to host Podcast channels alongside the video content. Is there any plans for this in the future

@Kerryi, as a workaround why not upload the podcast as video as many podcasters do it on youtube?

yeah that's what we currently do but some of our podcasts are very long so the ability to upload an MP3 would be a lot quicker for us

Really looking forward to this solution as well. Since we only need and have the audio, it feels quite simply absurd to have to create blank video for it. We just want to share our internal podcasts with our Communications Sharepoint-hub.

I am also looking for a way to distribute podcasts within out company (50,000+) and would love to see this capability added to Streams. As a work around, we are looking at using Teams and publishing within Sharepoint as a trial. There was a techcommunity video published a few months ago on how to do this if anyone else is interested:

I'll also try the suggestion that MarcusB (above) suggested.

Worth upvoting the suggestion on uservoice: https://stream.uservoice.com/forums/133762-general?query=Podcast

Some of our great learning material that our staff would benefit from is just audio. Love to be able to post up just the audio file on stream.

Thanks for the input! Regarding the comments about where to provide feedback, that UserVoice site is unfortunately not a Microsoft-run nor -monitored site. Time invested there will not provide a good return on investment. Please keep your ideas coming here to the Stream Ideas section of our Stream Community.
