Arrange Videos in a Playlist

Arrange Videos in a Playlist

I'm uploading a set of training videos and I'd like them to be presented in order. I'm putting them in a specific channel but the sort options on the channel don't seem to have a way to do that.

Either a Playlist or the ability to sort by name in a channel would be helpful

Sorting is okay, but we really need the ability to manually assign the order of videos, particularly when those videos are created by various people with varying naming conventions and at various times.

Thank you for listening to our requests.

Sorting by Name is a "work around" NOT a fix - As already pointed out, you may not have control over the names of videos.  One of the points of Stream is to have a video that can be published in multiple places, so when curating videos from multiple places it is extremely unlikely you will be able to dictate the names and therefore will still not have the order you want.  Don't accept poor workarounds as final solutions, it is NOT acceptable

Yes, Stream needs the ability to add chapters.

This feature is DESPERATELY needed. I want to keep everything in 365, but Stream is very deficient by not allow for chapters.

Occasional Contributor

Totally agree!  Please add this. Is this on the Stream product development roadmap?

Upvoted! Stream desperately needs this feature... It doesn't hurt to shoot questions to the @MicrosoftStream twitter account as well. Hopefully they finally decide to implement it.

I'd love to have an option to make visible all-public playlists for people. Like "How to", "Meetings", "Videos from the event", "Team building"... I've managed these things so far as a huge lot of channels under different groups 'cause there's no other option - but it's not really ideal tbh.

Also everyone seem to have the "trending" sorting as a default - so it doesn't care that i set up mine as "order by upload date", it will be always mixed up! Not a good HOWTO.
Please consider this.

IDEA:

I used this in various ways and environments where built it sorting/playlist/organizing are limited. What about naming the video with a sequential number at the beginning and then sorting by name? And change the default sort order to Name for the channel.

Although if the same video is used in another area and needs to be in a different order, then name will not work. But under some use cases it might be enough.

One handy workaround would be to categorize your videos by adding hashtags. You can look back on any video with that hashtag in your video library. Or, if that doesn't work you can embed your videos into a PowerPoint presentation. If you have any other questions this Microsoft Stream Q&A might be able to help you out!

@jenneller, Thanks for the idea.  Like all of the other proposed workarounds, this imposes too much burden on the user or administrator and inflicts too rigid of constraints on the playlist making it hard to modify in the future.

If the MSFT took this product seriously and wanted us to adopt it then they would add the most basic of video management features into it.  This issue has been open years.  It is safe to say that this product is not actively developed and to warn companies not to invest heavily in using it.  There are much better video platforms out there and it is clear to me that Microsoft Streams is not trying to compete.

@peteunicom , kind of like the forum here. Not even a Reply or vote feature. :|

I'm adding my vote to this as well, but it is apparent MS is not serious about making Streams competitive, even within the business realm. I'm taking all my videos to YouTube to make a viable playlist. Good thing I just started, so it difficult to do. But considering that, even at its infancy, our plans demanded the necessity of a playlist, it's appalling the devs at MS do not think a playlist is a necessity.

Not having this drives our users to YouTube

This would be a great feature for educators to be able to create playlists based on classes/courses! Badly needed!!!!!!!!

Please upvote https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-stream-ideas/ability-to-make-multiple-watchlists-or... as well.

We need this feature very urgent! In times of e-learning,this is a must and i think it is a so called "quick-win".

From above: "Not having this drives our users to YouTube"

Absolutely right!

So please make it happen!!! Thank you very much :)

Three years and still nothing on this.....come on Microsoft!

I would want this feature in the app as early as possible.

This is a very needed feature for a pewrson who regularly uploads his content on Stream.

The ability to arrange videos into curated and ordered playlists would actually make streams viable as an education platform.

At the moment it's too difficult to curate and direct people towards a series of videos, and as a user it's very difficult to find what you actually want once the organisation has a significant quantity of video content.

wow - from 2017 to 2020.

Playlists. Just an index of videos... This is where I feel that Microsoft is simply too big.

Though I will credit Satya Nadella for moving towards open source and the Linux model of many things. Hopefully this all shakes out into a superbly robust yet flexible ecosystem for corporations.

MS Stream seems like a low priority.

Shouldnt you just discontinue a product which you cant invest on anymore ! Playlist feature not added for 3 years :)

Please, I am begging you MS, we need this. With the change in mass online college right now, there are a tremendous amount of us using Streams as our official way to store training/lecture materials.

Playlists are needed, and with them, the ability to share playlists with a group/people/channel. Going through, literally, 300+ videos to share with people individually EACH term is a huge waste of people hours.

Currently the only way to make a "playlist", or even organize videos for others, is to put all of the links in an external document.

I feel like MS has forgotten about Stream as simple feature like this have been on the backburner for so long. One of the major reasons we want to utilize Stream is to keep users within the MS ecosystem but without something as simple as a playlist/channel ordering we're being forced to use other tools.

Occasional Visitor

HOW IS THIS STILL A REQUEST?! Winamp has playlists ffs! Microsoft, if you're wondering why you're never "cool" enough for the populace, this is why. You can't even push out a simple function like a playlist, while your devs jerk off to broken Windows updates! Disappointed is an understatement!

Agree with above comment. It's ludicrous that this isn't top priority on the Stream Roadmap.

Literally the only reason we have to use stream is to create internal training series' like those found on Linkedin... broken up into chapters and in a specific order. Our HR team needs this, our comms team needs this, our science team needs this, our management team needs this.

This question was posed in 2017, seriously, what is going on?

Cana someone from Microsoft actually respond to this and let us know when this most important feature will be implemented, and then make it yesterday. :unamused:

I agree with PriscillaP above.  We like the service and the privacy it provides.  We just want to be able to create playlists, be able to sort and potentially loop them.  Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult.

Occasional Visitor

This is a no-brainer! Essential feature, required as of yesterday if you want teachers to use these tools!
