Trending algorithm - decays over time?

Copper Contributor

Hi.  We've been users of Stream much more over lockdown, and from other posts I understood that the videos trending decay over time.  In my tenant (~800 people), there is a video from August that had a lot of view (~400 and a handful of likes), but it is still the top trending video.  I would have expected it, as it hasn't been watched recently, to have dropped down the order, and definitely off the top spot.

Any clues how the algorithm works?

For now on our intranet home page, i've set the Stream webpart to be by published order (which is a shame), but the banner at the top of Stream itself is still showing what feels like very out of date videos.
