sub-folders within a Stream Channel?

Is there a way to add sub-folders within a Stream Channel?  I'm using this extensively with two classes and for Staff training.  It would be highly effective to be able to split certain video's into groups - this would help students locate resources by unit / topic more readily.

thanks!

Hi Simon - In Stream if you want to have a main area / landing page for your videos with the ability to sub-divide or organize the videos at a 2nd level, you'll need to use a Group.

Groups in Stream are tied to O365 Groups and handle permissions as well as organizing of videos. Within a group in Stream you can make sub-channels within that group to further organize your videos.

Here is the help article we have that explains groups and channels in Stream: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/groups-channels-overview

Does that help? Or is there a reason you can't use O365 Groups / Stream Groups right now?

Thanks Marc, We’ve got groups in place - via Teams. I’ve set up different channels for subjects and need to put a file structure in place within the channel...

Ah, I see. We only have 2 levels of hierarchy in Stream (Group > Channel).

Your only option with what's available now would be to change around groups so you have more groups than just 1. Sorry.

We don't have any plans currently to add a new layer of hierarchy to the channel itself.

We do have playlists on our backlog to do, which might help you out, but I'm not sure yet when we'll pickup playlists to do. (If we did it would likely be late 2018).

Hi Marc, i'm in the same boat as Mr Goodall here, I am looking to upload a large amount of videos to an Office 365 service as part of our plan to migrate our onsite media drive into the cloud, these videos span multiple years and are used for marking/moderation. They are currently separated by folders which is an effective way to categorise them without needing to manually tag anything, but I am unable to see any way to create a hierarchy that would work for us in Stream. I was initially using a SharePoint picture library but many of the files are .MTS which are incompatible. They do work with Stream and Office 365 video though. Any thoughts on how I should proceed here?

Hi Dan - Sorry the only organization method we have in Stream is Groups and then channels within groups. There isn't anything else that you can do within Stream for more layers of hierarchy.

The only other thing I can think of (which isn't great) is to use #hashtags in the descriptions of the videos to further add more information and virtual grouping of videos based off of more layers of hierarchy under a group > channel.

Hi, did playlists ever get made? Is there any change to the answer for this thread's questions?

@Marc Mroz

@Marc Mroz Hello, I posted an idea with regards to the original comment on this thread:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-stream-ideas/add-folders-to-stream-channels/idi-p/1...

I'd be happy either being able to share a Stream group via a tab in a Teams channel or having sub-folders within a Stream Channel - just want to make sure to keep the conversation going :)

Thanks!
