Modern Stream vs Classic

Copper Contributor

Hello,

Can anyone confirm if transcription of an uploaded video is available in the new Stream experience?

We have assistive technology colleagues that really like the transcription functionality available in Stream (classic) and are reluctant to lose this if it's not available in the new platform.

Similarly, does anyone know if it will be possible to access the classic Stream interface / application after moving to OneDrive/SharePoint storage?

Just thinking if this was possible, perhaps assistive tech colleagues could continue to access classic while we move Teams recordings over to OneDrive/SharePoint.

Many thanks

Fraser

@FraserS We don't yet have the ability to add transcripts or closed captions to videos in the new Stream (uploaded to ODB or SPO). This is something we are feverishly working on to rebuilt inside of ODB/SPO for the new Stream.

Stream (classic) will still be around for quite some time and you could have some people using Stream (classic) and others putting videos in ODB/SPO up until the point that we retire Stream (classic). (We don't have retirement date for Stream (classic) at this point). Info about Stream (classic) migration/retirement here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/stream/streamnew/classic-migration

That being said, we are going to be forcing Teams Meeting Recordings to ODB/SPO much sooner in Q1 CY 2021. We are trying to make sure we have transcripts/closed captions in place before that forced date, but we are still working on a plan there. https://aka.ms/tmrodsp

Changing to have teams meeting recording go to ODB/SPO has no implication on the rest of the new Stream.

Thank you very much @Marc Mroz - that's really helpful
