October 2019 marks the beginning of the 12-month countdown before SharePoint Server 2010 reaches end of extended support (October 13th, 2020).  It’s not too late to start planning an upgrade or migration to the latest version of SharePoint whether your plans are on-premises, in the cloud, or somewhere in between. Now when using the SharePoint Migration Tool, you can start migrating your content from SharePoint Server 2010 to Office 365. You, too, can now select a sub-folder destination or create a sub-folder directly in the tool, allowing you to migrate your content directly into your preferred Microsoft Teams channel(s).

Hi, Mark:

Thanks for the heads-up on these tools, I'm sure they will be useful.

Side note: Has the end of extended support been extended for SharePoint Server 2010? This page says it's Oct. 13, 2020, which is less than 24 months from now.

Thanks,

@Mark Kashman - As far as I remember its around 12 months for end of support for SharePoint 2010 which is October 2020. Is this extended to Oct 2021?

Microsoft

Hi @Rishi Gupta & @Rob Helm ,

The correct end of extended support for SharePoint Server 2010 is October 13th, 2020. I miscalculated in the opening paragraph of the blog above, and have now corrected it; inclusive of adding the official table of SPS'2010 support toward the end of the blog; as found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/search?alpha=%5C%22SharePoint%20Server%202010%5C%22 (same as Rob pointed out).

Thank you both for the feedback and questions, Mark.

Hi Mark, any plans to support SharePoint 2016 in future?

Iron Contributor

At one point, it supported migrating from Dropbox and Google Drive. Is that no longer an option?

Copper Contributor

is this extended to Oct 2021?

Microsoft

@Joachim von Seydewitz , SharePoint 2016 is planned to be supported by The SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT). Stay tuned.

Microsoft

@Jleebiker , The SharePoint Migration Tool supports On-Prem content migrations to SharePoint and OneDrive. SPMT supports migrations from file shares and SharePoint on-premises 2010 and 2013. For cloud migration, you can use Mover (https://mover.io, newly acquired by Microsoft) to migration content for 3rd party cloud storage services including Box, Dropbox, Google Drive and others.

Hi @rajeshtechnovert - The SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT; https://aka.ms/SPMT) currently supports migrations from SharePoint Server 2010 (SPS'2010). There is no plan to block this scenario beyond its October 2020 end-of-support (EOS). Note: this does not change or affect the SPS'2010 code base beyond its EOS date. Thanks, Mark
