Purview Dashboards - Retention Label metrics wildly inaccurate

Iron Contributor

Does anybody know how long it might take for the dashboards reporting retention label usage to report accurate numbers? Our labels (auto-apply and manual) have been active for Exchange Online for several weeks, and the metrics (particularly for auto-apply labels) are inaccurate...actually non-existent.

For instance, I have an auto-apply label set to apply to all Exchange Online content dated prior to October 1st, 2023. This label name doesn't even show in my "Top retention labels applied to content" on the Data classification Overview or on the "Most used retention labels" on the Data lifecycle management Overview.

The next stage in my retention project is dependent on the successful application of this auto-apply label. Unconvinced that the label isn't being applied, I decided to run a content search for the label applied via auto-apply and I have nearly 400 million items returned (as expected). The top label used according to the dashboard has only 1 million items!

How can it be that a label with 400 million items isn't considered a most used label? I thought that maybe the dashboards weren't showing auto-apply label usage, but another label that I auto-apply to SharePoint News items is showing in the dashboard; however, it is very inaccurate as well. It shows 80k items when in actuality there are only a few thousand items with this label.
