The OneDrive team has been hard at work releasing features that will further enhance the collaboration experience with OneDrive.

Here are the latest functionalities that landed in production in the month of August-2019.

  • Comments on non-Office files
  • Popular Around Me
  • Direct sharing link to individual PowerPoint slide
  • Virtual Desktop updates

    Comments on non-Office files
    Roadmap ID: 16617

    Comments  are an effective and easy way of collaborating on a file by bringing your peers into the discussion, assigning tasks or giving feedback. We have seen great usage of this functionality in the Office files stored in OneDrive and SharePoint. This month we extend the same functionality to all files allowing you to work together not just in Office documents but with photos, CAD drawings, PDF’s and more. Users will now have the ability to add comments to files as part of their review process, leaving notes and getting notifications to ensure you are always in the loop.

    Popular Around Me
    Roadmap ID: 49510

    “Popular Around Me” in the "Shared With Me " view on web will now surface files which are recommended based on your working relationships to help you find relevant and trending information faster and discover content you might not have been aware of. “Popular Around Me” view doesn't change file permissions and users will only see what they already have access to.

    End users now have the capability to get the direct link to a specific slide in PowerPoint web app and share it with their colleagues. All the controls related to sharing apply to created link.

    Virtual Desktop updates
    Roadmap ID: 27027

    OneDrive sync client now supports Windows Server 2019 with Files On-Demand. This allows users running OneDrive in virtual desktop environments to leverage the power of Files On-Demand to save disk space and experience a faster initial sync. Follow this article to keep yourself updated regarding the support of Server 2019 with FSLogix for non-persistent virtual environments.

I've a question on sharing with external users. Can they use a OneDrive Personal account to sync files that an Office 365 account user has shared with them?

I'm not talking about uploading and downloading files, but proper syncing the way Dropbox can?

Do you know if we could if the comments on non-Office files will be stored in a SharePoint column? I wondering if I can automate it via MS Flow
Microsoft

Hi @Rodolfo Lagori , the comments are not stored in a SharePoint list.

@David Gorman, we do not support Business to Consumer sync at this time but that's definitely something we have heard feedback on and are looking at. I'd suggest submitting this over at onedrive.uservoice.com as well. Thanks!

Regarding Files On Demand Support for OneDrive on Server 2019 in an RDSH environment, I have some questions:-

Q.

Will this require a later version of OD4B or FSLogix Software?

Q.

Will Storage Sense be also available on Server 2019 in conjunction with FSlogix? I need to keep the VHDX file size as small as possible.

Q.

I am using folder redirection for Desktop, Documents and Pictures. Can I continue this method still?

Steel Contributor

Thanks @Stephen Rice , can I just conform that B2B sync only works with companies that have Office 365 also?

Has OneDrive been updated over the last week? I'm getting reports from many users that when you click the Sync button (either for the primary OneDrive account or to sync a folder shared with you, that there is now a long delay before the prompt to open in OneDrive occurs. It sits with this dialog on screen for well over a minute:

Happening in multiple Office 365 tenants, different browsers (Edge and Chrome).... it's taking so long that you thing something has gone wrong and you install the latest version again.

Hi @Rob Nicholson,

Let me follow up on this and see if we made any changes that might have caused this. Thanks!

We’re seeing a tennant wide user by user purge of desktop.ini and thumbs.db (files that should never have ended up in Ondrive). Is this an new feature rolling out? It certainly is clearing up a long standing problem we’ve had!

Microsoft

@David Gorman, yes that is correct. Thanks!

Hi @Nicholas Batchelor,

Just confirmed and yes, this is a deliberate feature we are rolling out via the OneDrive desktop client. It is part of build 19.152. Thanks!

@Stephen Rice, thanks.

That is definitely the sort of thing I'd have expected to see in the release notes!  My inbox is getting hammered by emails from Office365Alerts "Unusual level volume of file deletion".

Microsoft

@Nicholas Batchelor,

Good catch! We will be retroactively adding this into the release notes & we'll make sure we include these types of updates in the future as well. Thanks!

@Chris Yue

  1. No minimum version needed at this time. If we were to discover any issues in the future, it would be called out here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/sync-vdi-support.
  2. Storage Sense is supported and will dehydrate files automatically on Server 2019.
  3. Known folder redirection is also supported.
Brass Contributor

@gacarini Does Storage Sense dehydrate files of users who are not currently logged in? (both on Server and 10)

Copper Contributor

Will the Storage Sense admx GPO work with Server 2019 in the near future?

Copper Contributor

what about storage sense gpo for server 2019?
