It’s that time of the week and in this instalment we’re are reconnecting with Australian senior data scientist and engineer, Fahao Tang!

The MVP award holder for business applications (2015-2017) and visual C# / visual studio development technologies (2010-2016) currently works for one of the biggest banks in Australia while continuing to develop personal projects. Recently, Fahao has been working to upgrade his website, Kontext, to ASP.NET 3.0 on Microsoft Azure.

Kontext is a flexible cloud-native content management system that Fahao created from scratch. The platform, which allows users to create columns and publish articles, is updated by Fahao each time a new version of .NET framework is released, something which he says presents a fun challenge. “Even if I don’t use it in my daily jobs any more, I will update the application to keep my knowledge in .NET up to date,” he says.

Fahao looks back fondly of his time as an MVP, saying he was continually inspired by the international events and engaged community. Fahao attended the MVP Global Summit in 2013 and Microsoft Asia Pacific Youth Connection Days in Singapore in 2012, and says he enjoyed the “chance to connect with many experts from all over the world.”

Reconnect continues to inspire, Fahao says. “In Reconnect, there are many successful former MVPs who have enjoyed a great career and, in turn, I learn a lot from their experience and enthusiasm.”

And in regards to the future? For the short-term, Fahao says he would like to learn and develop people and leadership skills to become a better leader. “I recently accepted an offer as a Data Engineer Chapter Lead. It’s a new challenge for me as I need to step out of my comfort zone to develop people skills,” he says.

And in the long-term, Fahao hopes to stay on top of his game in data and analytics. For more information on Fahao, check out his blog
