A core principle of Microsoft Managed Desktop is the notion that modern management can give people fantastic experiences on workplace devices that stay current and secure with Microsoft 365.
What has been hard to quantify, though, is whether end users care – or even notice – how modern management changes their device experiences.
That’s why we partnered with Qualtrics – a leading experience management company – to measure the impact of workplace device experiences on employee sentiments that can affect their level of job engagement.
Although this initial study was limited in scope, the resulting analysis suggests the Microsoft Managed Desktop architecture and approach to device management has a dramatic impact on the way people feel about their productivity, their impact, their companies – and how well they feel valued by their employer.
The study was designed to help measure the impact of device experiences on the way people feel about their jobs, their impact, and their organizations.
We decided to study customer organizations who were in the process of deploying Microsoft Managed Desktop to modernize their workplace computing. We invited several customer organizations based on deployment size, status, and duration. Two organizations opted in based on their ability to participate during a set timeline for the initial study. One organization is based in APAC, and the other is based in EMEA.
For each participating customer organization, Qualtrics conducted a branded study with a prize drawing incentive. The studies queried two groups of participants within each customer organization:

As Microsoft Managed Desktop General Manager Bill Karagounis recently observed , a “cost center” mentality complicates IT environments and device management, taxing users in the form of lost productivity and increasing frustration with IT. We know this from anecdotal evidence we’ve collected in the course of collaborating with customers and partners over the last few years.
