Along with the burgeoning growth of remote work comes an urgent need for administrators with subject matter expertise in planning, delivering, and managing virtual desktop experiences and remote apps—for any device—on Azure.

If this is your skill set, the new Microsoft Certified: Windows Virtual Desktop Specialty certification can validate your ability to fulfill the tasks required of this key role and add value to your team and organization. To earn this certification, pass Exam AZ-140: Configuring and Operating Windows Virtual Desktop on Microsoft Azure, currently in beta.

Is this the right certification for you?

This certification is ideal for Azure administrators with expertise in delivering applications on Windows Virtual Desktop and optimizing them to run in multisession virtual environments. To deliver these experiences, they work closely with other Azure administrators and architects, along with Microsoft 365 administrators.

If you have deep experience in Azure technologies, including virtualization, networking, identity, storage, backup, resilience, and disaster recovery, you’re a great candidate for this certification. You leverage your understanding of on-premises virtual desktop infrastructure technologies for migrating to Windows Virtual Desktop. And, as a professional interested in this certification, you know how to use the Azure portal and Azure Resource Manager templates. You might also use PowerShell and Azure CLI for more efficient automation.

Ready to prove your skills?

Take advantage of the discounted beta exam offer. The first 300 people who take Exam AZ-140 (beta) on or before April 29, 2021, can get 80 percent off market price!

To receive the discount, when you register for the exam and are prompted for payment, use code AZ140LAHAINA. This is not a private access code. The seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. As noted, you must take the exam on or before April 29, 2021. Please note that this beta exam is not available in Turkey, Pakistan, India, or China.

Get ready to take Exam AZ-140 (beta):

Did you know that you can take any role-based exam online? Online delivered exams—taken from your home or office—can be less hassle, less stress, and even less worry than traveling to a test center—especially if you’re adequately prepared for what to expect. To find out more, check out my blog post, Online proctored exams: What to expect and how to prepare.

The rescore process starts on the day an exam goes live, and final scores for beta exams are released approximately 10 days after that. For details on the timing of beta exam rescoring and results, read my post, Creating high-quality exams: The path from beta to live. For more information, follow me on Twitter (@libertymunson).

Ready to get started?

Remember, the number of spots is limited to the first 300 candidates taking Exam AZ-140 (beta) on or before April 29, 2021.

Pass Exam AZ-140 (beta), earn your certification, and prove that you have what it takes to plan, implement, monitor, and maintain a Windows Virtual Desktop architecture and infrastructure. Be part of the solution that so many organizations are seeking, and make a difference deploying and administering remote technology for their workers.

@SDingemanse, you should be able to book this beta exam, unless you are in any of these countries, where beta exams are not available: Turkey, Pakistan, India, or China (as noted in Liberty's blog).

Copper Contributor

Hi, received this during checkout: This discount cannot be used on an order priced in this currency.

Copper Contributor

worked for me. $33 total.

Microsoft

@Samer Ighneim, We were having some issues on using the code outside the US, but it should be fixed now. Please try again (remember beta exams are not available in Turkey, Pakistan, India, or China).

Copper Contributor

Exam vouchers is not valid

Microsoft

@Lizard_Squad, the issue we were having yesterday has been solved. What error are you getting?

Copper Contributor

The voucher is not valid.

Microsoft

@Lizard_Squad, apologies for that. If you are not in one of the countries where beta exams are not available, it probably means the 300 limit has been reached.

Copper Contributor

Voucher isn't valid anymore, too less seats I think :(

Copper Contributor

I have received the invite email just 5 hours ago and other people received it a few days earlier, this isn't fair play.

Copper Contributor

Hi @Liberty Munson
I did request the voucher but didn't get any email...:(

Microsoft

Liberty has a great blog post about our beta process: Creating high-quality exams: The path from beta to live.

I want to add a couple of clarifications based on the comments I see in the thread:

  • There is no email invitation for beta exams, and we don't send vouchers.
  • In the blog post we publish to announce the beta exam, there is a discount code that can be used when scheduling it. The blog is public, so anyone has the opportunity to apply.
  • Because the exam is in beta, we need a control group. That's why the discount code is limited to 300 people (the first 300 people using it).

For those of you who were able to use the discount code, good luck in your exam and thank you for your thorough comments and feedback. For those who didn't make it, this exam will be live (available for every one to take) in about 10-12 weeks, once the beta and rescoring process finishes.

Hi,

I tried to register yesterday, no more available slots. :( Any chance to have more slots in the next period ?

Have a nice day,

Adrian

Copper Contributor

voucher invalid, Any possibility of extending the voucher code for additional members.

Copper Contributor

How can we get notified (for example an email) if there is a new blog post about a beta program?

If you post the blog the first people who read it will have the chance to register. And because of the timezones those people probably will be US only :(

Copper Contributor

Dear All

I look a message below to checkout a exam.

Hello -

Should we anticipate seeing changes to the objectives for this exam after the beta period concludes?  If we should anticipate changes, when will we see those changes on the exam page?  After the beta concludes, or not until the full exam goes live?

Thanks!

Microsoft

Hi @GregShields,

From beta to live there shouldn't be major changes in objective domains. The changes will be most likely related to questions format.

Once the exam is live, we review them every two months, so if there are any changes you will see a note in the exam page and in the skills outline document. And I have been announcing changes to certs and exams in my monthly article in the community.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

SandraMarin

For future exams I suggest you subscribe to get notifications from the blog about new articles being published. The beta blogs are always from Liberty Munson.

I've been announcing in the blog and in the community when new Azure exams and certifications are coming, so you know in advance when the beta blog will be posted, so stay tuned to my posts.

Hi MS Learn Team, just checking in--how far along is AZ-140 in the beta exam lifecycle? Are you still gathering the initial 250 qualified participants, or has it moved into the analysis/assembly/publishing phases? If it's in one of the latter phases, is there an estimated date (approximately, of course) that the exam will go live? Thank you!!

Microsoft

Hello @3pacShakur ,

The process from beta to live is about 12 weeks. We estimate Exam AZ-140 going live at some point mid-June. Stay tuned for announcements.

Copper Contributor

Hello,

usually when or how long its take for beta exam to goes live?

Microsoft

@samihmadani, it varies per exam, but in average 10 to 12 weeks.

Copper Contributor

Hello Team,

Thanks in advanced.

Thanks

If you have issues with certification results you can go to certification support https://aka.ms/CertificationSupport

You could also try going to your MCP dashboard https://www.microsoft.com/learning/dashboard.aspx and then under Exam Providers, select Pearson Vue. From there you can View Score Reports

Copper Contributor

From your certification dashboard (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/dashboard.aspx) you can check your transcript; if you passed it will show up under Active Certifications and in the list of completed exams. You can also check your score report from Pearson VUE for a confirmation of your pass/fail - login to your certification dashboard, select Pearson VUE from the exam providers list and click the Go button, then click View Score Reports from within Pearson VUE.

Copper Contributor
