Note: The contents of this article have been updated on 07/01/2020 to reflect the latest on bringing Kaizala features to Microsoft Teams. The update can be found here.

This article was also updated on 12/5/19 to reflect a refreshed timeline.

In April, we announced plans to bring the capabilities of Kaizala - the simple and secure mobile chat app for work - into Microsoft Teams. Today, we are announcing the first set of Kaizala capabilities are rolling out to Teams in the coming weeks. With these new capabilities, Teams is getting even better, and we encourage you to start using Teams today!

The new features are based on Kaizala action cards for quick polls and surveys, which will be available both in the desktop and the mobile app, and can be easily added to a channel or chat message by clicking on “…” at the bottom of the compose box:

clipboard_image_0.png

Send Quick Polls to your team, and receive aggregated responses instantly.

If you and your team want to get a quick vote on any topic or question, for example the location for the next team lunch, you can send out a quick poll to capture instant and aggregated feedback. The poll owner can set a due date for responses and choose between two notification options: a daily digest of progress that tracks participation as a percentage and tallies responses, or consistent updates as each response is captured.

If participation is low, the poll owner can send channel-wide reminders. The poll owner can also set preferences for result visibility. If allowed by the owner, all channel members can view live poll results, and poll outcomes can be saved and shared outside of the channel as a visual report, allowing for crisp communication both inside and outside of the team.

Surveys make it easy to share questions with added options for responses like multiple-choice, rating, text, number and date/time.

For example, if senior leadership would like to gather feedback on a quarterly company meeting, they can send out a survey to all attendees in a channel with varied question types.

Like with polls, each survey owner can set a due date for responses, choose different notification options, send reminders to drive participation, and set preferences for result visibility. If allowed, all channel members can persistently view results, and can save and share a visual report of the outcomes.

What’s next?

Surveys and quick polls are just the first Kaizala capabilities to light up in Teams. In the next year, we’ll be adding additional Kaizala Pro capabilities to Teams.

Please note: this table reflects Microsoft’s current expectations. However, dates and individual features may change and should not be relied upon in making purchase decisions.

You can learn about all capabilities coming to Teams this year, including, in the “What’s new in Teams at Ignite” blog post.

As we integrate Kaizala and Teams, Teams will ultimately replace the Microsoft Kaizala service and be the primary client in Office 365 and Microsoft 365 for communication with both internal employees and people in your extended networks.

During the integration, Kaizala will continue as a standalone service which we will continue to support and update. New capabilities have been added to Kaizala in the past few weeks, including 1. Support for right-to-left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic; and 2. a new web app allowing you to access Kaizala through a browser.

FAQ

When should my organization move from Kaizala to Teams?

We encourage all Microsoft 365 and Office 365 customers to start using Teams today to take advantage of the rich capabilities that Teams as the hub for teamwork in Microsoft 365 provides, including a simple and powerful experience for mobile users in 46 languages and 181 markets, Firstline worker capabilities such as shift management, guest access, and support for custom workflows and apps with Microsoft Flow and PowerApps.

If your organization requires specific Kaizala functionality that is not yet available in Teams, please review the integration timeline to determine when the capabilities in Teams will meet your needs.

How can I get started with Teams?

Download Teams from the app store, and access training and resources in our help center to get started. You can also join the Teams and Kaizala Tech Communities to give feedback, vote on feature requests, and engage with an awesome community, or join

What can I do to prepare for the transition?

We’re working to bring the Kaizala Pro capabilities into Teams by the end of calendar year 2020. Once the new capabilities are part of Teams, Kaizala customers will be able to start transitioning to Teams. We will provide more information and guidance closer to that date.

Can I continue to use Kaizala?

As we integrate Kaizala Pro capabilities into Teams, Kaizala will continue as a standalone service, which we will continue to support and update.

Sounds great that you'll be replacing Polly with massive functionality. Question: when should we use the new survey functionality and when should we use Forms (embedded in Teams)?

Senior Member

I am very interested in testing this new Kaizala functionality in MS Teams. Will there still be a stand-alone Kaizala mobile app in the future? Or is the MS Teams mobile app a requirement also for first-line users without a 365 license?

Hi @Goran Husman - Thank you for your question! We are not planning on a stand-alone Kaizala mobile app in the future, but rather, Teams will ultimately replace the Microsoft Kaizala service and be the primary client in Office 365 and Microsoft 365 for communication with both internal employees and people in your extended networks.

Hi @Christina_Gonsalves

Can I continue to use Kaizala?

As we integrate Kaizala Pro capabilities into Teams, Kaizala will continue as a standalone service, which we will continue to support and update.

Does this mean then that the Q&A above will only be until all Kaizala Pro capabilities are migrated into Teams? What happens to existing Kaizala users and groups at that point? And any estimate on when this is targeted, i.e. Kaizala no longer supported?

New Contributor

Hi, what about the support for existing Kaizala custom actions in Teams? Will there be a tool available to migrate the custom actions?

Occasional Contributor

We're using Kaizala Pro a lot in our company, especially across the field teams of our distributors in 40+ countries. Great tool!

Can we migrate content created in Kaizala, especially Announcements actions, to Teams at some point?

Are there features which are currently in Kaizala which we'll not see coming back in Teams?

Lastly what I don't like about Teams is the General Tab (general is too general-what should go in there? why can't we at least change the channel name?)+ that every channel has a Conversations and Files tab, which can't be removed or moved. This is especially not user friendly for the firstline workers using the mobile Teams app, as they always need to go to the "more" tab to select other tabs in the channel. Not all channels need to have these 2 standard tabs and they're just confusing for firstline workers; which channel was it what I need to use to have conversations? which channel was it again where this conversation was I want to check again? In which channel is that file again? etc.

Kaizala is simple in this: pick the known Group and the complete timeline of chats is there.

If Kaizala is integrated into Teams, this simple interface should also be available into Teams.

People get lost when there are too many options (ESPECIALLY by firstline workers-they have to get it quick, simple and easy-because they're in front of customers are under time pressure etc.) and its not clear to them where to go. Adoption will be very low and a transition to Teams will be a disaster.

They'll create their own alternatives again among peers, like Whatsapp, which we wanted to get away from in the first place by using Kaizala. Teams is great for the additional possibilities, which would be the next step in supporting our firstline workers for sure.

If Teams will be the place for firstline workers, you need to make the GUI very simple and easy for them. You need to give Teams owners and admins the flexibility to let them create their environments as such: simple when they need simple, extended when they think they're up for it. Simplicity rules!

Can this somehow be added to your Teams priority list? many thanks!

Tasks and Polls are about to roll out to Teams - are these new tasks integrated with alle the other task apps (To do and Planner)? Will these show up in the new taks-app within teams (and could you share an ETA for that)? @Anne Michels

@Anne Michels The road map now says in development but Q2 release for polls. Is this still coming soon? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=57022 My project managers really want the ability to do polls.

That "Teams will ultimately replace Kaizala" is great information (I learned something today), but of the following top-five Google search results for "microsoft kaizala", only the single non-Microsoft-controlled page (Wikipedia) even contains the word Teams:

Recommend adding a disclaimer to at least some of these pages so that _new_ users don't try to start using Kaizala just to have it go away. If Teams can meet their needs today, they should be directed to that.
