Unable to View or Manage Devices in Basic Mobility and Security

Copper Contributor

Hi. I was redirected here from a post I made on the Microsoft Community page (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/unable-to-view-or-manage-devices-in-basic-mob...). I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this. If it's not can you point me in the right direction?

We recently setup Basic Mobility & Security for our devices. We followed these instructions and it went well: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/basic-mobility-security/set-up?view=o365-world...

However, now we are not able to see the devices, or manage or wipe them. (We want to be able to do company data wipes).

On this page (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/basic-mobility-security/capabilities?view=o365... it says to go to Microsoft Purview compliance portal (https://compliance.microsoft.com/) > Data loss prevention > Device management.

There is no data management option in Data loss prevention.

Then we pulled up this document (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/basic-mobility-security/wipe-mobile-device?vie... where it says we should go to the Mobile Device Management Page (https://portal.office.com/adminportal/home?#/MifoDevices), then click on Manage Devices.

When we go to that page, there is Manage Devices link. We also cannot click on anything on the page - not the Manage drop-down, or Device Policies, or APNs Certificate for IOS. There are also no devices listed, and under the heading it says Devices: {{deviceCount}} like something is broken.

We were originally able to use this page because we set up the APN certificate. Not sure why it's broken now?

But those are two documents that seem to have incorrect information. Where are we supposed to go to manage devices set up with Basic Mobility and Security? And how do we do a company data-only wipe?

We do have a policy set up in Basic Mobility and Security. Strangely, we could not find the Basic Mobility & Security section on the left-hand side of Purview/Compliance, but we did find that the direct link is https://compliance.microsoft.com/basicmobilityandsecurity

And we did test with several devices that we put into a security group we created. It did properly force the users to enroll the devices, and install the Company Portal app.

If we click on Managed Devices on the Overview tab

It brings us back to the same broken manage devices page (https://portal.office.com/adminportal/home?#/MifoDevices)

Something I want to add - the devices ARE showing up in the Endpoint Management admin center (https://endpoint.microsoft.com/) for some reason? But we are not licensed for inTune.

So, I'm not sure why they are showing up here when we set up a Basic Mobility And Security policy.

Also, the only Wipe command I can find in Endpoint Manager is a full device wipe, which we do not want to do.
