Intune Extension Agent fails to download

Copper Contributor

Hello,

We are starting to utilize Intune and Powershell scripts to our Windows 10 units. What we are finding is that they are not running. It looks like the Intune Windows Extension is not downloading/Failing and unsure why.

I've attached 2 images, though it looks like within the event Viewer it cannot find the download URL.

Has anyone else ran into this or any suggestions how to fix it?

Hi Ron,

the screenshot has a DownloadStatus of 30 which is "download failed" (compare status table here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm/enterprisedesktopappmanagement-csp).

I guess the devices are not able to reach the download URL. Can you try to use the ContentDownloadURL in the registry and download the file on a device effected by this problem. Does it download then?

Did you run this in a corporate network with proxy servers, on-premise proxies or manages proxies like ZScaler?

If you have proxies the download might be done in system context where no proxy is set!?

Did you already tried with a direct internet connection without any proxy network device in between?

best,

Oliver

No proxies that I’m aware of.. I’ve set the test unit up on a home WIFI so too eliminate the network and corporate network stuff.

I cannot access the download content page.. it just states the page is unreachable. The URL isn’t accessible or even available. Tried pinging the URL (even from my personal home unit), it not available.

Okay I tried your URL and it seems the content is not available there. I tried a different one from a test device and this one is working. So I guess your tenant provides a URL which is missing the content currently. I'll check if I can contact someone to check this:

Can you double check the URL as the quality is not that good, I tried these both as the first part could be an m or rn

Interesting,  my url is the first one on the list. An it’s not accessible. Just wondering, is there something we need to do to access it?  So far everything else is working with auto enrolled devices within Intune.. just the items that require the extension are failing (for the reason it cannot download or install it..)

Even tried from my home internet feed, same results URL not available and not accessible.

No normally it just works if you open the URL in a browser. I contacted MS and asked for a check of this particular content location. As soon as I get a response I will come back with the info.

Hey Ron,

I got confirmation, the problem should be fixed on the Intune service side. Actually your client should get a new URL for the download and this URL should work now. Can you re-evaluate if the problem still exists for you? If the problem still exists can you try to setup a test device to see if it effects only existing devices and new devices are working now?

Thanks and best,

Oliver

Hello, confirmed, the intune extension is now installing,

Thank you.

You're welcome! I'm happy I could help.

We've exact same issue. Failed to download: https://prodamsub0202rcdata.azureedge.net/IntuneWindowsAgent.msi

Tried serveral time to reset the system.

How to solve this issue on server side?

Hi,

is this problem still existent? If yes please tell me and I will contact someone responsible for backend services to get it fixed.

Oliver

No, it was all fixed up by Microsoft.

Thank you,

Ron
