Maybe you should explain a bit more what you mean by a scan.
But depending on the configuration, you can run a malware scan for example.

Malware works, I would like to force a scan of Windows update

I`m not aware of that option, never seen that option. Would be nice if that was available.
But by settings the right poliy the client will auto-update. But that`s wat you`re looking for.
