Add all devices is pulling phones

Copper Contributor

Hi Community

We started to use Intune for Windows patching around 3 months ago. In the Update Ringos for Windows 10 and Later menu we added different rings for testing groups or computer models, but lets say that all the others we use a ring that had the option of "Add all Devices".

This was working great, until this last Friday Dec 8th i saw that it was showing a lot of Pending status devices and all of them are Phones.

Any clue why all the sudden changed? Should i build a windows 10/11 dynamic group instead of using the "all devices" option?  i think it defeats the purpose of the option. Thanks!

@Mikejr2009 have you considered using device filters in the assignments?

Not really but good idea, is this only for Device names? or i can exlude phones some how? I guess i can do some googling :) thanks for the idea

Device filters do use some of the same Entra ID attributes like manufacturer, model, OS, version etc. The only drawback is that you can only include\exclude one filter at a time. Maybe create a filter for all Windows devices and include that in the assignment. That way all non Windows devices like mobile phones should automatically get excluded.

@rahuljindal-MVP thanks for the Advice, i included a filter for Windows 10/11 that seems to be working

Include Filtered Devices in Assigment
Windows Devices
(device.osVersion -startsWith "10.0")

Now all iPhones are showing as not applicable.  I still wonder why all the sudden out of nowhere added iPhones automatically in this list.
Thanks for the help!
