Earlier this year, we launched the Microsoft Intune Suite and shared our intent to offer a solution that helps organizations simplify how they package, deploy, and update third-party apps. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our plans to launch Microsoft Intune Enterprise Application Management in February 2024 as a key addition to the Intune Suite.
A significant challenge faced by many organizations today is keeping their applications updated and secure. This was underscored in a Microsoft Digital Defense Report, which revealed that 78 percent of devices remain unpatched nine months after a critical vulnerability fix was released. A lag in applying patches and updating applications is a key vulnerability, making organizations susceptible to cyberattacks.
Navigating applications from different developers and ensuring each one is current is cumbersome. IT admins can spend hours packaging apps to prepare them for deployment so that end users can work effectively and rely on the apps they need. Organizations need a streamlined and efficient way to manage their third-party applications, including easy access, discovery, and deployment systems. Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive solution.
Enterprise App Management enables IT and security operation teams to simplify the lifecycle of managing first-party and third-party applications by offering a secure, prepackaged catalog of apps. This reduces the time and effort IT administrators spend on packaging apps and tracking updates. With this solution, IT teams can efficiently deploy fixes to vulnerable apps and ensure that all apps are kept up to date from the Intune admin center. The introduction of the new catalog starts with Windows applications.
Streamlining app management
With easy access to a comprehensive catalog of Microsoft and third-party applications complete with available language packs and architectures, customers are empowered to tailor their selection based on specific preferences and needs. Once the desired application is selected, editable metadata is prefilled with essential details, such as install and uninstall commands.
Keeping apps secure and updated
Enterprise App Management streamlines and consolidates the application update process by providing a comprehensive view of all apps that need an update from a single, easy-to-use screen. A list of apps in the catalog with available updates shows both current and new versions. The work traditionally required to monitor updates and gather application-related data and packaging is significantly reduced, allowing admins to focus on more strategic tasks.
Next steps and additional resources
We look forward to customers adopting Enterprise App Management as part of their Intune Suite purchase. For added flexibility, this new solution will also be available as an individual add-on to Microsoft subscriptions that includes Intune. The list price for Intune Enterprise App Management will be USD 2 per user per month. The new add-on will be available on February 1, 2024 for enterprise customers and March 1, 2024 for government customers. Global and billing administrators can use the centralized experience (Intune add-ons) in the Intune admin center to easily access trial licenses (up to 250 users for 90 days) and licenses to purchase.
Although available as a separate add-on to try or buy, we expect most organizations will realize the greatest value with the adoption of the entire Intune Suite.
