Drop down box and lists

Brass Contributor

I would like to see a drop-down box as an option. I created a choose a student and it lists 109 students. I would like it to be a drop-down option.

It would also be user friendly if I could just copy an excel column and paste it and each cell becomes a new option.

Thanks Damien. After posting my original post, I had stumbled across this "multiple answers unchecked" solution later on and I had updated the post for Zhongzhong Li accordingly.

@OnurCK  but still Microsoft has not provided a solution nor to the lack (bad design is made of lacks) of multiple selection of options in drop-down lists nor the connection to dynamic content such as sharepoint lists or excell files in one drive as data sources of drop-down lists nor even option lists either . It's 2020, any chance to see a commitment in design basic features into their own products from Microsoft? 2020 February and still waiting..

@OnurCK  The Excel copy and paste worked for me - that just saved me so much time, thanks so much! I didn't even try that on my own because it just didn't seem like it would work, but it did! THANKS!

@Brian Dixon was this resolved? as i also very interested in a solution to this.

Perfect it word!!!! thanks so much!

@OnurCK Wow! Thank you - this tip has just saved me hours of repetitive work! 🙂

Hi all,
How do I add a drop down box on my spreadsheet, I am sorry but the info above does not help me
There was a solution for this?

@OnurCK Thank you very much, this saved me a lot of time

Yeah, still unusable.

Microsoft are lagging way behind Google on this.

I'm actually surprised organisations (like mine) still use them. It's really quite debilitating.

@Damien_Rosario

Any reason why why we can't have a multi-select drop-down menu (with little tick boxes down along the right hand side) similarly to filters in Excel for example?

Its a simple solution - drop down and multiselect aren't inherently mutually exclusive....

Look Forward to your response.

@Rhys_Templeman why does it need to be a dropdown? A multi-select choice question is do-able now.

@Brian Dixon

Once you paste your list, go all the way to the bottom and choose the dots to the right; this will give you an option for dropdown (as opposed to the default of Choice).  Scroll bar has been enabled for the actual dropdown.  Just created one to test and all is good.  Limited characters for options, though

It is frustrating that you cannot start typing and the list is filtered by the characters. Makes it extremely unuser friendly for long lists!

surely there's a simple solution for this.

@Zhongzhong_Li

Is it possible to select more than 1 field in a drop down menu in microsoft forms, if we have say 200 drop down names and I would like to multi select (i.e. select more than 1 name).

If you have 200 names in a drop down, you can't use the multi select choice question method.. its too long and occupies a lot of space in the form.

@Zhongzhong_Li , would it be possible to populate the dropdown box from a list on the linked  spreadsheet?

Also, would it be possible to create the form directly from an existing spreadsheet that contains drop down box options?

Thanks

Megan

I found the answer to the above, copy all the cells from the spreadsheet and put them in option 1 and microsoft forms creates the dropdown. Now I would like to know if microsoft forms supports the use of dependent dropdowns? So is it possible for the dropdown box options change in response to one of the questions above?

@MeganK001 yes, through branching.  You can then use the same copy/paste action for the dependent dropdowns.

@MeganK001 The dropdown options can't change in response to a previously answered question.
