We recently enabled Section feature for all customers. Section is one of the top asks from Microsoft Forms UserVoice community. It allows form creators to organize their questions in a better way, and form responders to easily consume those questions.

Filling out a form with sections

When your customers fill out an online form with sections, they're able to better navigate many questions in a long survey that you've organized into smaller parts.

Section - go to the next pageSection - go to the next pageSection - the new pageSection - the new page

Create sections in Forms

To create a sectiongo to the "…" menu of the "Add New" action bar. Within the section, you can add and edit the title, description, images, and video. Additional functions (duplicate, remove, or move a section) can be found in the "…" section header menu.

Edit sectionEdit section

Setup branching for a section

Similar to adding branching for questions , you can also define branching logic based on sections. Set up branching on a particular question, then jump to a question group (section) based on your options.

Is section available in GCC tenant?  Tx.

Hi,

I love Forms and I use it regularly, I mainly use the quiz part of the forms but I had a suggestion. It would be great if you could add an option to time the quiz and it should be customizable by the creator of the quiz.

@Leslie Marianko does not look like its made it to the GCC yet (I'll bet you are surprised!!) :)

Love that you can have sectioning very cool. I noticed you can also add videos to them that would be awesome IF you could link to content on Stream or other video providers other then just just uTube!!

Limitation for section
Branching has been temporary disabled when the form contains sections.
As branching is an important capability in Forms, we will enable the feature once we refine the logic.

It kills "branching" and that is a dampener for what possibly could be a great news  Smiley Sad Shall wait for your refined logic to kick in and then sections would really shine! Until then it is wait and watch for me.

Microsoft

@Gary Griffin  @Leslie Marianko , for all new features in Forms, it will take around 1-2 months for rolling out to GCC, depends on the feature size.

Section will be in GCC soon.

Microsoft

@Mandy Clark , yes, Stream integration is in our backlog.

Microsoft

@Abhimanyu Singh , yes, we are actively working on it.

Brass Contributor

@Zhongzhong Li , you mentioned above that "Stream is in our backlog."   Are you referring to the ability to link to a stream in Form?  This would require that a Stream be edited down into smaller sections to be interspersed in the Form.

I am more interested in the Interactivity option in Streams allowing for Questions (or Sections) in a Form to be interspersed in different places throughout that Stream.  Is this a possibility?

Brass Contributor

When possible, please post an update on the timeline for branching with sections.  Although I can see a potential for confusing users when a branch spans sections, there don't seem to be any technical problems with combining these (unless backward branching is supported).  I'd be curious to hear more about what "refine the logic" means.

Adding sections seems to mess up the Excel export. My form has 7 sections, and a total of 37 questions. No branching. When I export the results, in Excel there are a bunch of empty columns before I see my actual results. Is anyone else having this issue?

Copper Contributor

@Zhongzhong Li  Is there a date for when we will be able to branch and use sections? Currently, being able to have sections without branching is basically useless for our functionality. Thanks!

Copper Contributor

We're looking at introducing MS Forms and need the branching feature with sections. Do you have any ambition to deliver this before the new year?

'1-2 months to roll out new features' . It would be perfect timing for us if branching with sections was introduced now - ish. That said, if you could give us all an idea of when you're aiming to introduce it, we would all appreciate it.

Thanks

Microsoft

@2018-Integrity , i cannot share out the target date based on our policy. You shouldn't wait too long for the branching feature for section.

Copper Contributor

I just tested Sections today and branching IS working!! THANK YOU MS!

Microsoft

@dodonald , yes, we just start rolling out branching for section. It will take few weeks for all customers.

Please be free to let us know your feedback for the new capability.

Any time line for adding Section Branching Rules for FormsPro? Currently only seems to be Forms.

Brass Contributor

@Zhongzhong LiAny update on when this will be available in GCC?  We still don't see it.

Brass Contributor

Yes, any update on the GCC status? It has been a few months.

Copper Contributor

We are using Forms for an employee onboarding process.  Is it, or will it be possible to have different sections of a form to be filled out by different users?  Example:  Manager request section (they submit that section) -> IT section (they submit they're section) -> HR section (they submit they're section).  Once the last section has been submitted, then all responses would be in one response?

Microsoft

@Yvonne Hertel  and @Kathleen Lynch , section has been enabled for GCC in Aug, for section + branching should be later Sep.

Let me know if you still don't have section in GCC.

Copper Contributor

Microsoft Forms finally has the sections function added but when will we get the ability to add titles/descriptions in between questions? This is a pretty basic requirement that Google Forms had for a long time. I need to be able to add text/description that pertains to a set of questions in the same section of the form (same page). So in certain situations, I don't just want to divide the form into separate pages/sections, I also need to give certain instructions or subheading titles to different sets of questions within that section. When can this function be available?

Microsoft

@KatZ123 is still in our backlog. We will track the feedback for this feature.

Copper Contributor

@Zhongzhong Li thanks for the update, hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for this basic feature

Copper Contributor

Is it possible to have a form section where you could have a user essentially add new sections to the form for repeated values? (i.e adding new text boxes for N* number of users).

Copper Contributor

I do not see the sections in our Education Tenant. Any idea on the time that this will be released? Thanks

Brass Contributor

How is this feature in Forms, but not in Forms Pro?

Copper Contributor

Thank you for this feature! Quick thought - could a way to enter a section break in existing forms be included? I have a form that is already created with 25 questions - I would like to be able to go back in and add a few sections but I can't seem to be able to move the breaks up/down to in between questions. Thanks!

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Why am I not able to Shuffle the questions within a Section in MS Forms.

The shuffle Option is Greyed out.

Is there a way out.?

Kindly guide me members.

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I guess I am not the only one but for the moment am seeking for the answers to

1) How to shuffle questions inside a section and how to shuffle sections?

2) How can I indicate points for questions type "Likert" without doing it manually one by one?

3) How can I print a PDF of questionnaire only without excel file, responses etc. Only the questions printed on a pdf file?

Thank you,

Prashenjit Saha

It is possible to have submit button for each section so that answers will be submitted partial;  when a student got issue while doing his 4th section he refreshed his screen but all his previous section became empty;   he has to redo all of them ;  please address this issue.;  its a very critical issue when we conduct a 3 hr exam  we can predict the internet and session will be live for the entire duration.

Copper Contributor

Hi, I would like to analyze my form responses with section-level cuts, is the option available in the responses tab/excel?

Also, there are a few questions that may not be applicable to all respondents - what would be the best way to calculate scores in a way that these get excluded for a respondent while scoring? Is it through formulae on the response sheet?

Copper Contributor

Even 30 min exam can be ruined because of poor internet connection, if it’s not submitted... so responses should be submitted partially.. on every section, time period maybe ??

Copper Contributor

@Prasen165 - to answer your first question - you can shuffle the questions within/across sections using a simple drag and drop

Copper Contributor

Is it possible that we will be able to attach documents within Forms in the future? I know there's a feature for the user to upload documents, but I was interested in knowing if attaching documents for the users will be considered. Thanks!

Copper Contributor

Is there a way that forms remember input data even after Refresh page?

Copper Contributor

Also how can we make the background in Forms responsive so that the dimensions of the page changes when viewing on different devices?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

When navigating from the end of one section to the next it does not go to the top of that section but to the bottom. How can this be corrected? Thank you

Copper Contributor

Hello,

Is it possible to repeat a section when the form is been filled up?

Thank you

Copper Contributor

Seems like branching for sections isn't supported in Dynamics 365 Customer Voice surveys.

Copper Contributor

Please allow users to submit sections independently of the entire form.  It will allow instructors to use sections in formative presentations with immediate feedback that scaffold to more complex questions at the end of the presentation.
