Looking to polish your survey with some visuals? Adding a background image is a great way to capture interest and increase responses from the moment a user clicks on your survey link.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a better, yet faster, way to add background images with Theme Ideas. Once you enter a title, you’ll see a flash icon on the “Theme” button, which indicates there are recommended background images for your form.

The theme of your online form will also automatically update to best match the background image.theme #2.PNG

If none of the recommended themes suit your needs, you can click “Hide” in the top right corner to hide the recommended theme options, and click on "Show" to retrieve the recommended options.

Q&A

Q: Why didn’t my title didn’t trigger any recommendations?

A: Currently only a portion of the forms may see theme recommendation, and over time Forms will continue to work on improving this feature.

Q: There are some images I like. Can I save them for future use?

A: Not for now, but if you have a need for this, please submit your feedback to us.

This is a good feature that helps evolve the already pretty good theming options. I'm not sure why the Theme Ideas is solely tied to a keyword. That would be good to present in any scenario when the user clicks the theme button. I don't feel, for example, that the Customer Satisfaction Survey images are particularly specific to that scenario. They do however look like nice generic images that could be used by any form.

For other users looking to take advantage of the new themes here are some trigger words:

Order, Request, Quiz, Plan, School, Sale

Once you select the new theme you can go back and edit the form name and still keep the new theme.

I really like the way that Microsoft Forms is developing. Are there are any guidelines for image size which would give an optimal background? I imagine this is going to be a question which I get from designers.

Really like Forms and where it is going. Hopefully someday we can use our custom organization themes. We have some really nice high res images that would fit as a Theme within Forms.

A list of key words would be helpful.

Yes, it is a nice feature and would be great to see a list of available key words.

I always think themes are a good idea for forms so peaple can associate with what your company or business is trying to find out from you.

I would like to suggest a new theme that you can add for those who might want to start a business in the recycling industry.

Why not set up a Recycling Theme that way anyone who is trying to collect data about recycling can have a theme so people or companies can see what you are enquiring about.

Hey,
I have a form with custom theme (image) applied to it previosly, but i don't know the source of the image now. Can I download the image that is applied as a theme? Is there a repository for the images that is used in forms like Site Assests in Sharepoint Pages?

Copper Contributor

Keywords I have been able to identify so far that trigger specific themes:

  • testing
  • request
  • list
  • music
  • dance
  • preview
  • brand
  • lunch
  • satisfaction
  • suggestions
  • update
  • questionnaire
  • order
  • request
  • quiz
  • plan
  • school
  • sale
  • education
  • company
  • business
  • voting

I am having problems when using my own images for a back ground, Microsoft forms enlarges it so much it is pixelated on the background, any way to fix this?

Copper Contributor

It would also be helpful if Forms gave some guidance, e.g., "Enter a title to see theme suggestions". Until I found this string, I had no idea why I only sometimes saw photo images. If I'd had a clue it was tied to the survey title I'd have known to try different words.

But yes, def upvote having a list of keyword that will trigger the suggestions.

Other trigger words:  car, student, travel, buy

Copper Contributor

Upvote having a list of keywords too!

A drop-down on themes would be very helpful for the UX in navigating to more visual appealing themes.

Very frustrating trying words to find themes and extremely time wasting and now doing the same to try and find the new animation themes. Please give us access to all Microsoft and let us decide for ourselves, we're all grown up now!
