Cloud users are not deleted after stopping of the sync

I moved some synced users in a non synced folder in Active Directory, but the corresponding cloud users were not moved to "Deleted users" in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
I already changed the SMTP proxy of the user in the Active Directory, so that it is the same as in Microsoft 365 admin center, but still it didn't work. What could be the reason for that?

A note of caution would be to ensure the user objects in Azure AD and associated information (mailbox, etc) are not necessary before going ahead with this approach.
