AMA: Age restrictions in Store

Brass Contributor

Hi guys,

Another question we are frequently asked: is there any way to use Endpoint Manager to restrict students to age-appropriate apps from the Store?  I haven't been able to get an answer on this and yet it seems like such a basic concern for managing devices in Edu.

Thanks!

@jabbrwcky Are you referring to the Microsoft Store application? If so, we don't have that capability today. Alternatively, you can look at restricting app installs from the Microsoft Store and publish applications via Company Portal for students to pull down.

@Andy Fu Yep, I'm talking about the Microsoft Store on Windows devices.  We are currently blocking / publishing apps as you have outlined as a workaround to this, however this is not an ideal solution as it reduces the benefit of the device to students since they can't go and find an app they need for a particular purpose that's entirely educationally appropriate; they have to come to us and request its addition.  If we could filter the apps students were able to install to just the education store and ensure they can't install age-inappropriate apps, we could just open up the store and let them have at it!
