Web Filtering block pages in Edge vs Chrome

Copper Contributor

Hi,

Whilst looking into the web filtering capabilities*, I've come across this Chrome Extension - Microsoft Defender Browser Protection - Chrome Web Store (google.com)

Does it grab the policies applied to the corporate machine (onboarded to MDE) or does it just grab a universal Microsoft policy?

So say we block youtube.com via MDE, this will obviously be blocked in Edge on the corproate issued laptop, this Chrome (with this extension) also block youtube.com showing a similar block page to what Edge would?

* I know about the differences between Edge (SmartScreen) and the Chrome (Network Protection) block pages.

Many thanks.

Hello jt-jt,
Instead of using the "Microsoft Defender Browser Protection" extension, we highly recommend to use "Smartscreen" for "Microsoft Edge" and "Network Protection" for "Chrome", "Firefox", "Brave", etc...
Both "Smartscreen", and "Network Protection" can be set via GPO, MDM, and so on.
If you have MDE P1 or P2, in addition, you can allow/block specific URL's/domains/ip addresses with "Indicators - IP address/URL".

P.S. It just grabs a "universal" Microsoft policy.
