Default paths are missing

Copper Contributor

Hi everyone,

We installed Defender for Endpoint on a couple machines. When running the Client Analyzer is shows the following results. Appearantly these folders can't be created. Anyone seen this before and knows what causes this issue? I assume it's the permission set on lower folders that get inherited. Have that checked in the meantime.

###################### Missing default path check #########################
2022-06-28 09:52:09Z [Error] MissingPaths 122003: Default paths are missing:
Default MDE Cache directory path
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Cache
Default MDE Cyber directory path
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Cyber
Default MDE Temp directory path
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Temp
Defalt MDE Trace directory path
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Trace.
Please ensure the mentioned missing path(s) exist and have not been renamed.
You may need to create the missing folder with system context.
For example, use this command: PsExec.exe -s cmd /c (mkdir.exe C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection\Cyber).

We do have the same issue when we try to onboard defender for endpoint via SCCM onboarding package (officially supported way, see MS security portal) on freshly installed Win11 clients. With Win10 there was never a problem, but on Win11 clients we observe the same issue like Niels van Dijk described above...

Did you find a solution on this

@Niels van Dijk

Did you find any solution to this problem.

@Knut_S, I have been off the project for some time, unfortunately no solution known by me.

I actually found a similar issue, but it was not missing the path but rather a registry setting.
