Limitations of hash reputation analysis

Microsoft

Microsoft Defender for Storage - the benefits and features | Microsoft Docs

On the section, "Limitations of hash reputation analysis" says "Hash reputation analysis isn't supported for all files protocols and operation types".

In my understanding, hasu reputation isn't perfect.

Is hash reputation effective for the following threats?

  1. Malicious code such as javasscript is embedded in the image and triggers when opened in a browser.
  2. Malware itself is disguised as an image.

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out.
Totally agree that the hash reputation alone is not enough for detecting various types of threats and easy to trick. That is why we are working on adding more sophisticated anti-malware capabilities to Defender for Storage. Stay tuned....
Thank you for messaging.
Besides hash reputation, are there any other functions on Azure to malware threats?
Or do I have to use non-Azure functions to prevent malware before storing files in storage?
Thanks.
Like I said we will be adding more sophisticated anti-malware capabilities to Defender for Storage later this year.
Thank you.
I understand.

@Stanislav Belov

Any estimate when those more sophisticated anti-malware capabilities to Defender for Storage would be coming? And what kind of capabilities?

we can't discuss roadmap plans publicly. next year is all i can say
