OWA redirect user to captcha

Copper Contributor

Hello,

We have over 10K users but there is 1 user that gets redirected to https://outlook.office.com/owa/owahipcontrol.aspx directly after she sees her email(OWA).

The captcha is broken and therefore she cannot click on verify. I have a support ticket open but it gets us nowhere with them. The issue is reproduceable on different pc's and browsers but not on mobile devices, her outlook client is working correctly.

Anyone encountered this before?

Best work with support on this. Just in case, you can try the restricted users and delist portals: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security/removing-user-from-restr...

@Vasil Michev

Thank you for your response, i appreciate it.

We have searched everything, we cannot find this user on any list. What i don't understand is why Microsoft hosts a non working captcha page.

broken( captcha text is invisible and with a spinner, see screenshot)

https://outlook.office.com/owa/0/owahipcontrol.aspx

https://outlook.office365.com/owa/0/owahipcontrol.aspx

working (captcha is visible and verify button works)

https://outlook.live.com/owa/0/owahipcontrol.aspx

If Microsoft fixes the captcha page than we can click on verifiy and the issue is gone i think.

Anyway, support wants to call me this afternoon, maybe they have a different solution. I will let you know.

Best regards

Wietse

@Wietsedr It looks like the issue could be because of Outlook Connected accounts feature which is deprecated now or the Office 365 alias is added to the user's Microsoft Personal account.

Connect email accounts in Outlook on the web (Microsoft 365)

Add or remove an email alias in Outlook.com (microsoft.com)

@Rahul Kumaar Any news on this issue? I have a other captcha page to add to the list:

A user in our organisation is getting redirected to this page when opening the o365 webmail (owa). @Wietsedr , have you been able to resolve this? According to our user, she was trying to sync her private calendar account with her work account. Which steps she took, she can't really tell anymore. I've checked o365 and private outlook account aliasses, but can't find anything. When we add another account to the mailbox and open it that way, we do not get rederected to this page.

The issue seems to have "magically" dissapeared. Very strange. It seems some kind of protection is still in place, but doesn't really work anymore?

Hello,

Somehow her local cache was triggering the issue. It worked everywhere until she used her laptop and then we had the same issue everywhere(different devices). After clearing her cache multiple times with support the issue vanished and has never returned afterwards. No-one really understood why it happened only to her.

Greetings.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with local cache. We tried 2 devices (private mac and work laptop). Both had the exact same behaviour. Below screenshot from the test on a private mac computer. I'm thinking in the direction of some kind of safety feature that is not in use anymore? (too many connections, or something like that?) ... I'm just guessing now.

I would advise getting in touch with a more experienced support engineer, they can take over your screen and help you out. It might take a while before you get in touch with the right support engineer I have experienced. In my organization we have over 20k users, only 1 with this issue. But it works for weeks now.
I was planning on doing so, but the issue dissapeared today. On all devices. We have about 2k+ users and only one has had this issue so far. We'll keep a close eye on this. :) Thanks for your response.
Is there any update regarding this query? I'm currently facing the same issue with my one user.

hello dear, same problem for me per weeks now... any hint your side? I would appreciate. Thanks. @janakkhadka

@Wietsedr

Can try InPrivate mode and other Internet access channel to isolate the problem?

I think your current issue should be due to the current service degradation (ID: MO603795) published from Microsoft. You can check the update in your Microsoft 365 Admin Center -> Service Health.
