Outlook 365 Inbox not updating

Copper Contributor

I use Outlook 365 on multiple devices and it works great except on my newly purchased Lenovo Yoga 730. The Outlook Inbox is not current and is several days behind. If I do a search for an email which I have seen on another of my devices, it will find it and I am able to send emails. However, the Inbox is not updating to include current emails. I have searched within all of the other folders with no success. I am at the point where I check my cellphone for new mail and then search for it on my laptop in order to respond. Not the most efficient way to go.

Thanks in advance.

How about recreating the outlook profile?

@adam deltinger  I appreciate everyone's help but I think you are all missing the point of the problem.  My Outlook works fine, its the web version, Outlook.com that won't update.

@Deleted, i think you may have missed the original post here.  It's for outlook and not OWA.

I suggest creating a new thread specifically for OWA so as not to confuse contributors @Deleted.

in that new thread, i may suggest trying different browsers but that would be in the new thread and not in this one.

@Dave Rodgers Thanks for your help Dave. Hopefully I won't run in the same issues anytime soon. Other minor issues keep popping for different people though.

One is that: When someone is drafting a new email and types in the recipient, their email does not auto-fill. Now, people haven't been very consistent with saving their contacts, however, if you're emailing someone you've emailed in the past, the email appears even if you don't have them as a contact. For some people that worked as normal after I've uploaded their .pst backup but for a couple it didn't. Is there anything I can do for that? I'm afraid that if I upload their .pst again it might duplicate their messages (although there is an option to not upload duplicates, for some reason it happened to 2 users)

And that's the second point: a couple of users, after more than a week of using Outlook 365 just got some of their emails in their inbox duplicated. Weird issues overall I'd say.

Hi @JohnJps, this is widening the scope of this original thread and is not really relevant to it.

i'd suggest create a specific thread for these new points however, re the first point you may have an nk2 file issue. Check out a couple of links which hopefully will proof usefull to you.

re the duplicated emails; i've only seen this on none exchange / pop accounts where the connection to the ISP dropped therefore not ACKing the delivery and so delivers again.  i've not seen this with IMAP or exchange, in other words synced accounts.

@Dave Rodgers Thanks for your reply. Will check out the links provided and if the problems persist I'll create another post more relevant to the topic.

Hi

Has anyone been able to sort this out?

Thank you

@Anywheresa Create a new domain user. Logon to that PC with that user. Everything will work normally again. If you run SFC /scannow you'll likely have corruptions.

@Yosef Fridman   .. I had the same issue.  Turns out all I had to do was Reset the View.  (Pity I'd already gone down the rabbit hole trying new profiles, etc. Oh well!)

Just putting this up here to save others some time, I hope.

What ended up working for me was none of these solutions (I tried them all), but rather running the Outlook tool which is part of the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.  There are about 10 different issues it diagnoses and solves with Outlook, one of which is problems receiving/sending email.

If it matters, I am a business Outlook 365 user; some documentation implies it only works with business users - but you might as well try it if none of the other solutions presented here work.  The page itself lists "Microsoft 365 for home" as one of the supported environments, along with Office 2019, Office 2016, Office for business,  Office 365 Small Business Admin, Office 2010, and Office 2013.

sorry to bump this again, but blame Google if you want. I was having the same exact issue as described in the original post (Outlook 365, the email client not web app, was out of sync with the server), and what ended up solving it for me was to disable "working offline", a feature which I had accidentally enabled under the send/receive tab. If anyone else runs into this issue, see if you have this feature enabled (apparently it's easy to accidentally enable, so easy that I'm not sure how I did it) before proceeding.

Hi try to turn off Cached Exchange Mode, please perform the following steps:

1. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings.

2. Click the Office 365 account, and then click Change.

3. Under Offline Settings, uncheck Use Cached Exchange Mode.

4. Exit, and then restart Outlook.

I have Outlook 365 on my PC & android.  This morning neither system would update with new emails.  tried restarting both a few times with no luck.  Any suggestions?  Thanks
