Excel Online - Auto-show Other Users' Updates in Read-Only Mode

Copper Contributor

Hi there,

I'm having some trouble with an Excel document being shared through Sharepoint. When viewing the document with edit rights, any changes made by another person shows up almost instantly. However, when in read-only mode, you are forced to refresh the page to see any changes made.

Is it possible to view live changes whilst in read-only mode?

Thanks very much in advance,

Sammy

@SammyD did you have any updates on this?

I'm having the same issue, but I can't find any information about it.

Thank you,

Ivan

Hi Ivan,

I'm afraid I didn't find a fix; I had to inform the team to make sure they refresh the page manually.

In the end, we found an off-the-shelf product to do what we needed (resource planner)

If you're not tied to sharing Excel, I believe Google Docs has this functionality but then you have the task of automatically updating your shared Google sheet with updates made to the master document on Excel. Plus, it's a bit of a clunky fix.

Cheers,

Sammy
Don't you just love it when you have a problem, find someone else with the problem, look at the comments and everyone else has the problem, but not a single solution?
