WORD closes when opening a file from OneDrive

When I open a file from any of the three OneDrive accounts I use WORD closes. This happens with OneDrive Build 21.016.0124.0002 (Insider Ring) and WORD Version 2102. It worked OK with Version 2101 (and presumably an earlier OneDrive build).

Same happens with Excel.

I read reports from 2018 with the same problem, the advice then was to update the OneDrive version. But I am using the latest builds.

Could it be a newly introduced bug, or is there a workaround?

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. We'd suggest reporting the issue through the Insider hub for Windows and also through the Word app so logs can be collected and investigated.
