The `allowEditRanges` function is currently only available for Excel 365 Online when using the Excel JavaScript API from an Excel Add-in, but would be useful in the Desktop versions of Excel (e.g. Windows & Mac).

This would allow Add-ins to protect Worksheet contents but allow the edit of Ranges therein, e.g. importing some data from an external source, some of which should be immutable (e.g. metadata about the data source) to the user but some that should be editable (e.g. some of the imported data content).

Currently, this does not appear to be possible within the Excel Desktop applications via the JavaScript API (but users can do this directly within the Excel apps by using the Worksheet Options, so it's surprisng this isn't possible via the API).
