MDATP for servers pre-requisites

Anyone know if Configuration Manager is required to deploy and manage Defender ATP Antivirus on Windows and Linux servers. 

I know Intune can be used to manage Windows 10 devices. However, my question is specifically for servers using MDATP antivirus.

You don't need SCCM perse, it's just that not all servers OS versions support Microsoft Defender AV.
This article does a good job on where MDAV is supported and what the alternatives are if you don't use SCCM
