Unfortunatly you will need to buy 300 licenses to get access to Copilot, this is due to demand outpacing supply.

Correct. Same rules apply: 300 licenses for a year.

For now there isn't any Microsoft 365 Copilot trial license. I suggest that you use Copilot with Bing Chat. It's very useful.
