Disaapearance of More Precise and More Creative Options

Copper Contributor

I have been using Copilot since it was released as Bing AI. I use Copilot for a lot of things but mainly to understand complex math, computer and physics logics which you might have guessed requires The More Precise mode and sometimes the More Creative Mode. But one I woke up hopped onto my device only to find that these options have disappeared. I checked both on mobile and pc even went further to ask my relatives, but it is the same for all. It is a bug or intentionally done to promote the Paid Version. Searched up on the web, found that changing the region to US would work. It ended up working but only in mobile. I use pc mostly for the Programming stuff so I just can't spend tedious hours typing programs or questions on the mobile. If I type the questions on the pc version I will meet with errors or wrong answers. This is quite frustrating.

Any idea whether it's a bug or strategy to promote the paid version ? Remember there is no official notice from MICROSOFT about this so yeah

What version are you trying to use? Personal or business?

@Chris_Ferraro
Personal, Non-paid version. I was thinking of getting the paid version but this happened >:/

@_DebNotFound_  I have Copilot for M365 apps on my work device, and the public "non paid" version on my personal PC.  I can confirm that the layout for the free version seems to have changed significantly, though I do not think that features have necessarily been removed, rather they seemed to have been significantly rearranged and in some cases "reworded"  Across the top, the "Chat" and "Compose" buttons seem to have split functionality that was previously presented in a different way.  I note that when I start a new "chat", I have to choose the gpt I want, namely Copilot or Designer, but you are correct that I do not se a "precise" option on my private version, where as I still do on my work version.

Despite me leading our companies "Copilot for M365" initiative, I find myself jumping between different options to get the results I want.  I tend to use Claude for code.  As of the latest version of it's "free tier" (Claude Sonnet 3.5) a few weeks ago, it's the fastest LLM around (until it's not 😄 ) - The free tier is pretty generous, and resets daily, it also has a new feature that is aimed specifically at developers called "Artefacts", which when you ask Claude to generate content like code snippets, text documents, or website designs, and Claude will create an Artifact that appears in a dedicated window alongside your conversation.

Not sure it is appropriate to suggest the above in this forum, but this is about helping the community, and as of right now, I do not believe there is a "one size fits all solution"

Just had an update from Microsoft support

the conversational tone selector has been removed to limit the cognitive overhead of model selection on the end-user and want the chat/copilot itself to choose the right model for the conversation.
Official Microsoft documentation is being updated to reflect the changes made to Copilot's conversational styles."
That is unfortunate. Thank you for sharing!
There is a work around. If you include creative, balanced, or precise stlye in your prompt it is equivalent to choosing the previously available conversational tone selector. If not Copilot decides on the response you will get.

@martings Unfortunately it is choosing the wrong one for me.  I am only getting the creative one and not the more precise one.  I have the paid version and no longer get to choose or set a default.

I have tried that workaround without luck. Copilot sticks to purple conversation style = creative.
