Can Microsoft 365 Copilot use SharePoint pages and news to generate answers?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

We use SharePoint to share knowledge through SharePoint pages and news, but when I use the Copilot chat functionality, I don't get answers with content from SharePoint pages and news. When would this become available? Or is it?

Thx for sharing your experiences 🙂

It should search them as part of using your graph data. Is it a specific page it is not pulling results from?
Hey Chris, even if I search for a specific news message on our Intranet, where I have access, Copilot cannot find it or is referring to documents instead.
If I just use our SharePoint search, then I get the message right away.
So it made me wonder if Copilot or the Graph searches in the SharePoint pages / news pages.
Interesting. It should access what you have access to in OneDrive + SharePoint. I have had it reference things from SharePoint before. Perhaps an admin has enabled some level of restricted SharePoint search or there are sensitivity labels at play?
I tried it with a colleague and we have to explicitly say to search in SharePoint.

You're right, currently SharePoint Copilot chat functionality doesn't directly access information from SharePoint pages and news posts. While there's no official announcement on a specific date, there is some discussion about including this functionality in the future.

Here's what we know:

  • There's user interest in searching SharePoint content through Copilot chat, as evidenced by online discussions [Microsoft 365 Copilot and sharepoint page content].
  • Microsoft is actively developing Copilot, and one of their goals is to make it a more comprehensive information hub within Microsoft 365.

While we can't say for sure when SharePoint page and news content will be searchable through Copilot chat, it's a good idea to keep an eye on Microsoft announcements. They might reveal new features in future updates.
