My company is getting ready to move to O365. So, they are finally testing Windows 10 and Office Pro Plus from O365. Unfortunately, we have a SharePoint 2010 environment on which a mission critical custom LoB app resides and it will not be replaced prior to the new WIN10/Office 365 rollout.
The problem is that the Office 2016 apps do not interact well with SP 2010.
Issue 1: The Excel workbooks in SP2010 document libraries do not open in the client. When clicking directly on the Name (with link) field, the document opens (or attempts to open) in the browser.
Issue 2: When attempting to open directly in the client via "edit document" or "Send To"> "Download a copy" we receive "The document could not be opened for editing. A MS SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document". See attached picture.
Environment & Configuration
Have tried to disable Modern Authentication via registry key
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\enableADAL. This had no effect.
Have seen nothing in the diagnostic or usage logs to indicate any problems.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Hi @Kevin_Hughes,
their is a problem with document caching in the office apps when working with SP2010, if I remember these things right. Have you tried something in this direction?
