Microsoft Search in Bing extension for Google Chrome changed default search engine

Last week we enabled the Microsoft Search in Bing extension for Google Chrome. Today a user reported that, when it was installed, it changed his default search engine to Bing and it is greyed out so he can't change it back. 

This document Microsoft Search in Bing and Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise - Deploy Office | Microsoft Learn says that users can change their default search engine back to what they want but the toggle is also greyed out for him.

Any idea how to allow users to change their search settings?

I ended up disabling the extension. It wasn't working the way the documentation said and I wasn't going to spend the time figuring out the problem. People get really annoyed if they are forced to use Bing instead of Google.
