Exchange Online MDM settings - retroactive?

Copper Contributor

For compliance reasons I've been asked to take a look at Exchange Online's MDM settings. One setting is to set requirements for smartphone password length, the other is for quarantining devices when someone adds our corporate email to their device.

If I enable these are they retroactive? Will they affect devices that already have corporate email added to Outlook iOS or Apple Mail? Or only newly added devices? If the password setting is retroactive how will non-compliant devices alert the user? When they try to look at the corporate mailbox? Will it also prevent them from accessing personal accounts that might be in the same mail client?

Thank you

They are, yes, and depending on what you've configured you might end up blocking/quarantining the devices. So best inform the users accordingly first.
