Updating progress for Initiatives automatically

Hello,  I have a few questions about Viva Goals,

1) While it is possible to use Excel as a source for a key result, it is not available to use for an initiative. The only option is to update the progress and status manually, Is this by design?

2) There seems to be a latency of a few hours (2-3) from the time a status is updated in the source e.g. Planner, and the time it is reflected in Viva Goals, is there a way to reduce this time?
