Today, the Azure Cloud Shell team, with Danny Maertens (Program Manager Microsoft), is announcing the availability of additional regions for persistent Cloud Shell storage. Azure Cloud Shell is an interactive, authenticated, browser-accessible shell for managing Azure resources, either using Bash or PowerShell. To be able to choose additional Azure regions for your Cloud Shell storage is a highly requested feature by customers with data sovereignty laws or regulations around the world. The new options available lets you pick additional options when choosing your Azure regions for your Cloud Shell storage account.

This is good to see.

Does Cloud Shell work with Azure Storage Account Firewall yet?

@thomasmaurer:

It's worth mentioning that dismounting the storage will lead to deletion of all saved SSH keys, scripts, etc in the Cloud Shell!

It's not something you should do just for fun!!!

@KamilRT That is absolutely correct, this will give you a new Cloud Shell image. I will see if I can write a short blog on how you can migrate the settings. However, no worries by switching, the old settings are still stored on the previous file share, so you can always go back.

From regulatory reasons I'm looking for storage account firewall settings - disable access from internet

I noticed that the bash command shown should actually be lowercase: `clouddrive unmount`

can this setting be enforce by azure policy or some other mechanism?

it's quite a common requirement that all resource are created in a particular region

Copper Contributor

I'd be interested to know this too. Our customers often restrict resources to certain regions, @thomasmaurer can the creation of cloud shells default to pre-defined preferences set at the tenant level or via policy?

Thanks!
