Resolved - Known Issue: APP/MAM-protected apps require SDK update on iOS 14.5 beta and higher

Updated 5/18/21 - This issue has been resolved with the public release of iOS 14.5. See: GitHub - msintuneappsdk/ms-intune-app-sdk-ios or NuGet Gallery | Microsoft.Intune.MAM.Xamarin.iOS to obtain the latest versions of the Microsoft Intune App SDK for iOS.

 

Intune and Office test beta OS versions to ensure management and apps work as expected when Apple releases new updates. With the release of iOS 14.5 beta OS on February 1, we’ve discovered an issue where App Protection Policy (APP, also known as MAM)-protected apps may be unable to launch. We see the issue in Office apps with APP protection and 3rd party line-of-business (LOB) and independent software vendor (ISV) apps that use SQLite directly or indirectly.

 

We have shared feedback with Apple about this launch issue and has been resolved with the public release of iOS 14.5.

 

Remediation

If you are experiencing this issue with your LOB app, you will need to update APP-protected apps to our latest SDK, Xamarin Bindings, or wrapper.

Otherwise, please contact your software vendor to make the update.

 

Note: For the best experience, we always recommend using the latest versions of the SDKs available.

@Intune_Support_Team  : Please help share more details on the root cause of the issue and a tentative timeline please when the issue could be addressed as iOS beta testing activities are gated.

Apple has re-released IOS 14.5 beta1 (same name, new build #).

I have tested Teams and Outlook, both are working again.

When did they re-relase @andysteiger ? I have an interesting situation

 

iPhone 6s running 14.5B1, installed 2-Feb

  • User 1: Standard Intune enrollment with full MAM policy
  • Result: All MAM-managed function as expected

iPhone 12Pro running 14.5B1, installed 3-Feb

  • User 1: Standard Intune enrollment with full MAM policy
  • Result: All MAM-managed apps crash on launch

 

Apple doesn't typically re-release build wihtout version increment, do they?

Hi @Intune_Support_Team / @andysteiger : Thank you for the update. Please the issue seems to be partially resolved as the crashing issue is resolved for Microsoft Apps only, however 3rd party apps like Zoom for Intune and Service Now enrolled via Intune , the crashing issue still persists. Please advise in case we need to open cases with respective vendors ?

@WanderingIdiot They just released it around 2 hours ago. I wasn't able to open Teams and Outlook with the initial release of 14.5B1, but after the updated 14.5B1, it all works again.

Application crash on launch even after LOB app rewrapping with Intune iOS App Wrapper SDK 14.1.3.  Tried installing on iPad OS 14.4 / iOS14.4 and lower versions but the result is same. However if we install application before wrapping with Intune Wrapper SDK, we were able to install and launch application successfully.  Any help on this is much appreciated.

@Intune_Support_Team has the issue been resolved with the general availability of iOS 14.5? Or has there been an update from Apple on this yet? I tested one of our LOB apps. It's working fine on iPhone SE (iOS 14.5) however there seems to be issue with iPhone 12 pro.
