Does Inplace archiving of Shared mailbox requires licensing?

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I've tried searching online regarding this topic. As per the documents, Shared mailboxes require additional licensing for enabling In place archiving. But in our tenant, the option can be enabled even without the licenses (Auto expanding feature is not available).

Could anyone please provide some confirmation on this topic? I don't want to break MS Licensing if this is a bug from their side.

Microsoft simply doesn't enforce licensing requirements in code for many of the features available in O365. It's your responsibility to make sure you are in agreement with the licensing terms.

@Vasil Michev  You are absolutely right but as a service provider it is their responsibility to not confuse their customers. As an organization with many admins , it's really difficult to fight against others on an existing option.
