Decommissioning Exchange Server 2016 with Azure AD Connect Enabled

Brass Contributor

Long story short, we have migrated all our mailboxes to the cloud and all email are flowing in the cloud.

We have azure ad connect enabled to sync ad users password and other attributes including those of exchange. We need to decom our exchange server and no guide or kb is available with this scenario.

Please help and point us to the right direction on how we can decom our exchange server 2016.

There is an article for it: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/decommission-on-premises-exchange#to-disable-directory-sy...
Important note to keep in mind:
Can third-party management tools be used?
The question of whether a third-party management tool or ADSIEDIT can be used is often asked. The answer is you can use them, but they aren't supported. The Exchange Management Console, the Exchange admin center (EAC), and the Exchange Management Shell are the only supported tools that are available to manage Exchange recipients and objects. If you decide to use third-party management tools, it would be at your own risk. Third-party management tools often work fine, but Microsoft doesn't validate these tools.

That being said, I've been at many organizations where we don't use Exchange tools to manage anymore, but edit with ADUC/ADAC parameters we need to.
