What’s New with the Exchange Deployment Assistant?

Last year we released the Exchange Server 2010 Deployment Assistant (ExDeploy), a free web-based tool which can help you deploy Exchange Server 2010. With ExDeploy, you can create Exchange Server 2010 on-premises deployment instructions that are customized to your environment. The Deployment Assistant asks you a small set of questions, and based on your answers, it provides a checklist with instructions that are designed to get you up and running on Exchange 2010. You can also print the checklist or create a PDF file.

You can access ExDeploy at http://technet.microsoft.com/exdeploy2010.

Thank you for the continued feedback. We use it to determine content updates that are released on a monthly basis. You can see the details of the June update in the Release Notes within the Assistant.

A couple other new items of interest are:

  • The Deployment Assistant is also available in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Spanish. This includes localized versions of the customized checklists that are available for download.
  • To read more about the Deployment Assistant, including feedback from other customers, check out the new feature article Deploy Exchange 2010 with the Deployment Assistant.

We're always interested in improving ExDeploy and would love your feedback about the existing version as well as additional scenarios that would be helpful to you in deploying Exchange 2010. If you haven't done so already, check out the Deployment Assistant.

You can send an e-mail directly to edafdbk@microsoft.com or via the 'Feedback' link located in the header of every page of the Deployment Assistant.

Planning is happening right now to determine what additional scenarios will be most beneficial to customers, and we’d love your input!

One thing that would be benificial, and I think would be relativly easy to do would be to add the option to download the checklist in either *.doc format, or in *.pdf format.

Somethings in the checklist are not valid for my environment, it would be nice to be able to cut out or customize for my environment specifically.

Hi,

Upgrade from Exchange 2007:
I'm missing the option 'Can you move all users to Exchange 2010 at once'.

Jason,
You can download it as a .pdf, just click on "download checklist".

Peter,

I said that rather poorly.  I meant it would be good to have the choice to download in either doc or pdf formats.  Right now it is just PDF.  I can convert the PDF to word, but it blows away all the formatting and you end up looking at a wall of text with odd symbols where bullet points used to be and all that.

Would be nice if we could also get it as a doc file when we download it.

BTW, I didn't say it in my initial post, but thank you for the deployment wizard.  Sincerly, the exchange team does excellent work and I really am appreciative.

Jason,

PDF is specially created to avoid too simple copying content.

It has disabled many features ans that is why it opens so quick and is so small in size.

I don't think there will be such function in near feature.

When will you be able to release "removing the last Exchange 2007 server"? We have migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 and there is still not much documentation on removing the last Exchange 2007 server.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

Mohamud, regarding the information about removing the last Exchange 2007 server, that should be referenced in the 'Post installation tasks' step of your checklist. You can also find the information here:

Hope this helps,
Katie
