Re: the error message - Excel is looking to perform an 'open and repair' on the workbook. It's difficult to provide a specific solution without seeing the workbook.
There are many things that can corrupt a workbook:
- an exorbitant number of cell styles
- an exorbitant number of objects (pictures, shapes, text boxes, etc.)
- too many external data links which are unable to update on open
- 'used range' on a given sheet far exceeds the actual data - workbook is bloated
- the workbook's created date is from a very long time ago (e.g. 2003) and the file started as an .xls
- the workbook is loaded with vb modules that can't be loaded on open of workbook
If it was my workbook, I'd begin by making a copy of the workbook, re-name the extension to be .zip and take a look at the XML.
