Vlookup to find multiple variations of a text string

One of my co-workers asked me if a worksheet that is protected. When she sends to someone else would they be able to do VLOOKUP? I tried looking this question online and didn't find an answer

Yes, protection only affects whether or not people can change the cells of the worksheet, it does not prevent pointing a formula to it and hence getting the content of the cells. If you do not want people to have access to data in an Excel file, remove that data. There is no protection safe enough to prevent people from getting at that data, except if you set a file, Open password.

Thank you for the help
