upper limit

i am attempting to write a formula where an additional output is calculated if the previous sum is less than a certain amount; however, i need to set an upper max on the total output (i.e. if the previous sum is 200 but my upper max is only 201; the current output is giving me a higher overall sum than 201)

I trust you realize this is an incomplete posting. (You don't even close the parenthetical sentence at the end, suggesting that there's more to come....)

It would be helpful, too, if you could post a copy of the spreadsheet in which you're seeking to write this formula.
