Updating raw data from expanded pivot

Copper Contributor

Hello All,

Is there a way in Excel to update the raw data from an expanded pivot?

Once data is expanded from a created pivot onto a new sheet (within the same workbook), if updating that sheet, is there a way to add the new information or changes made to that sheet so it can be reflected onto the raw data the pivot was created from originally?

Thank you for your help.

@Vgaines I wouldn't want to do that. When you drill down in the data via a pivot table, you can use the table that's created to see the underlying details. Good to analyse variances or understand what's in a particular category. If you want to change the data you should do that in the source.  The intermediate table is not linked to the source in any way and you should just delete it once you are done with it.

Thank you so much for the fast reply.
I didn't think it was possible, nor a good idea either to modify the original data. This question came up during one or our meetings as some team members work of the expanded data/intermediate table to complete and update other work functions. They notate their progress on the intermediate table and wanted to see if this could be reflected on the original data as well.

Again thank you!
