Hi,
I am experiencing issue with freshly installed Office 365 on my MacBook Pro 16` (2,6 GHz 6core Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, MacOS Catalina 10.15.4), no available updates either for MacOS or Office365, no plugins, etc.
When I open excel spreadsheet (8MB, 120 sheets with macros), excel gets impossible to use. I have spinning wheel literally after every click. When I wait 30 sec, I can click again then wait again. However, spreadsheet is normally working on less powerful windows machines.
I tried to boot in safe mode with no improvement to excel performance.
I am starting to wonder, if it is possible to even use excel on Mac?
Thanks for reply, Tomas

@Tomas_Frank I am also having this same issue. Excel freezes for a few seconds very frequently making it really unproductive. Has anyone found a solution? Excel version is 16.45 and the OS is Big Sur 11.1.

I had the same problem. Downgraded to Version 16.31 for Excel. Works much better!
You can find the version here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-for-mac
Remember to turn off autoupdate or else the spinning wheel will be back with newer versions!
