Stockhistory function appears to no longer be updating past Feb 10 2023

Copper Contributor

From what I can see, the Stockhistory function has stopped pulling data.

Last date of data is Feb 10 2023. It does not give data past that date. It is not giving an error. It will pull older data before that date.

I have tried restarting computer.

I have checked for updates to Win11 and Office. Office updated.

I'm using Office 365 for enterprise

Since I'm not seeing more outcry about this I'm wondering if there is something that I need to do on my end.

There is one other post on this site. But I can find no other posts complaining about this.

Thanks for raising this issue. Hopefully our squeaking helped spur the fix!

@DismalDave Hello, is STOCKHISTORY able to give the current day's close?

Eg using this formula STOCKHISTORY("MSFT",TODAY()-7,TODAY()), I only get data up to Mar-2, even though Mar-3 market has closed. Is STOCKHISTORY acting up again, or am I not using the function correctly? Thanks.

It's working for me.

It's 7:23 PM Pacific time for me. I find that it doesn't start working until after about 6:30 PM my time. I know it says it's supposed to work at different times. I've never seen it work until the market has been closed for a while. Specifically after 6:30 PM Pacific.

It sure would be convenient to get it closer to market closing time. But it's way better than what I was doing before.

Thanks. Yes, I noticed it worked around 11pm ET (8pm PT). Pity that it isn't "live", like the Data-Stocks function in Excel 365.

I use it to lock in end-of-month prices, and also to see current prices in the middle of the month. Unfortunately, STOCKHISTORY doesn't work very well to retrieve the current price 😞

Hey everyone,

It seems Microsoft Stockhistory is acting up again...does anyone get this popup message when refreshing their worksheet?

Your assistance will be of great help...

No issue on my side... only that the price were from two days ago Mar 5, rather than Mar 6 (which we noted above could be due to Stockhistory only updating after 8pm PST).

I wondered if your issue is due to foreign exchange tickers (eg the JSE). But I tried using your XJSE tickers and it worked for me.

Pity that Stockhistory is a bit unstable. But Google Drive Sheet's equivalent "=Googlefinance" also blows up from time to time on foreign tickers. Could be issues with connections with Refinitiv.

It is 9:30 PM Pacific time here and I am not getting today's numbers. It usually has shown up 3 hours ago.
I am not getting a popup. I'm not getting anything.
Not again!
No Mr Bill!! (US SNL reference there)

@deanecarlson

Oh no, not working again here in Brazil. 10:36am Mar7,23. Last data available is for 03Mar23...

Like firefly , on and off...

Yup broken again. It didn't update for me even after 930pm PST.

Darn. Confidence shattering. How to trust it.

@DismalDave Down again. Sample of five ticker symbols as of 3/7/23 7:59AM CT: Data for UPRO, TQQQ, URTY, FNGU, and BULZ for 3/6/23 is missing. I'll start bugging the data provider @Refinitiv on Twitter at https://twitter.com/Refinitiv

I'm shorting DHT and NAT and long SIRI above 4. These are the stocks I tried this AM with no luck!
Mine is back up as of 9AM Pacific 3/7/23
@DismalDave I seem to have access to the data again. Sample of five ticker symbols as of 3/8/23 9:27AM CT: Data for UPRO, TQQQ, URTY, FNGU, and BULZ for 3/7/23 was pulled successfully.

@DismalDave

I am having the same problem.  It is delayed in giving me the true last day's closing price.  I'm getting the price of the stock two days ago when I use TODAY() as my end date input.  And it's inconsistently updating several stocks I have in the same worksheet.  Some stocks will show a last close date of two days ago and some will be a different date.  This is very frustrating.  WHY CAN'T MICROSOFT JUST FIX THIS ALREADY!?

I should note that the tickers I'm looking at are all for mutual funds, not individual stocks.

Is there a Microsoft channel that we can collectively provide feedback to?

@Yen_Limau

The only channels are as here Microsoft Feedback Portal for Excel

Microsoft also monitors this forum, but don't expect immediate feedback or any feedback at all.

This is all I have found. I have an account through the college I teach for. When I go to leave 'feedback' in Excel it says to talk to the site admin. So, I can't even do that.

By making the heading of this something that the google would pick up on and that hopefully would get enough views to become obnoxious I was hopeful that MSFT would look at it. I excel in obnoxious.

@DismalDave2ndtime

yes, if you are on business/educational account providing feedback from the app could be disabled by the company organizational policy.  However, Excel · Community (microsoft.com) always works. Add your feedback here and ask other people to upvote providing the link. How many people viewed doesn't matter.

Does the number of upvotes help get the issue looked at?
I know this has had a large number of views and comments.
Looks like you know how this system is managed. Is there one of those that gives a bigger flag to folks watching?

I made the initial post and then had problems logging back in, so made another account. So I can't modify the main post. I can mess with the one right under it. I have been updating that one as system goes up and down.
To me, this looks like the only place we can find info on status when we let each other know what our one data point looks like. MSFT has no way for us to see status on Stockhistory so we don't know if it's us or them. Until it's all of us, and then it's them. 😉
